The conflict between Iran and the joint forces of the United States and Israel has now entered its 36th day. What began as a declared mission by the U.S. to bring about regime change in Iran has since evolved into a complex geopolitical confrontation with global implications.
Initially, the United States justified its involvement by claiming that the Iranian people were suffering under a hardline Islamic regime and required liberation. U.S. President Donald Trump even claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had been eliminated—suggesting that this could trigger a mass uprising within Iran.
However, contrary to these expectations, no such large-scale internal resistance emerged. Instead, reports indicated widespread grief and condemnation.
Global Repercussions and Economic Fallout
The U.S. later shifted its stance, arguing that Iran posed a threat to neighboring countries and global stability. Iran, on the other hand, maintained that its attacks were limited to U.S. military bases in the Gulf—an explanation that several Gulf nations appeared to accept.
The war has led to significant economic losses for both the United States and Israel. Within the U.S., public opposition has intensified, with large-scale protests under the banner “No Kings” taking place across major cities.

According to U.S. sources, an F-15E fighter jet had earlier been shot down. While one crew member was rescued, another—identified as a Weapon Systems Officer—was reportedly missing. The U.S. stated that the officer had survived for two days in a mountainous region before being rescued in a daring mission.
The news was widely circulated in pro-U.S. and pro-Israel media outlets.
Iran’s Response: “A Cover for Uranium Theft”
Iran has strongly challenged this narrative.
Speaking to reporters, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that there were major inconsistencies in the U.S. account. He pointed out that the location where the officer was allegedly hiding and the site where the rescue operation took place were significantly far apart.
“This appears to be a staged operation—possibly intended to divert attention from an attempt to steal uranium,” he suggested.
Operation Scale Raises Critical Questions
Reports indicate that the so-called rescue mission involved a significant military deployment, including:

* Two special transport aircraft
* Two combat helicopters
* Surveillance drones
Iran claims that several of these assets were shot down during the operation.
This has led analysts to question whether such a large-scale deployment would be necessary for rescuing a single individual.
Strategic Motives Under Scrutiny
Military experts speculate that the United States may have intended to secure Iranian uranium reserves ahead of a critical deadline—reportedly the 7th of the month. Such a move, they argue, could have been used to diplomatically isolate Iran and pressure it into submission on the global stage.
With the operation seemingly unsuccessful, some experts believe the U.S. may be emphasizing the “rescue mission” narrative to overshadow a failed strategic objective.
